XIMO Health Golden Energy Shot Ingredients: Supplement Facts Label

Today, XIMO Health released the supplement label that will be found on both the sample packs and the bottles. This is for the more potent reformulated energy shot product slated to release in about 5 weeks.

Particularly interesting is the 100 mg of caffeine. I reposted a CBSNews report on 5-Hour Energy and their analysis showed that their product contained more than twice the caffeine as a XIMO Energy shot.

Furthermore, XIMO uses naturally derived caffeine in our product. It's the combination of active herbs inside this product that give you the hours of energy boost, mental focus/clarity and possible weight loss. In the future, I will list each ingredient separately and explain their common uses in supplements.

XIMO Health: New Look, New Energy Shot Formula

Last night, XIMO Health owner Erik Laver announced the upstart health company has completed the design of a new single-serving foil package that will add never before seen convenience to its amazing energy products.

The one ounce foil packaging will tear at the top and contain XIMO Health's special blend of energy boosting active herbals in a liquid form. In addition to a new look, owner Laver said the new energy shot now contains improved ingredients. Laver said less artificial ingredients are used in the new formulation also.

Laver also noted that this new formula will contain white willow bark, which he said is good for increased appetite supression. He noted that for those who enjoyed XIMO Health capsules in the past, they will find the addition of the white willow bark a welcome one.

The company also released art of the proposed new energy shot packaging on it's corporate website yesterday. Laver commented that he intends on seeking the approval of a governing body on athletic testing. Once this testing is done and Golden Energy Shots are proven to not contain any banned substances, XIMO Health plans to add the approving authority logo to the packaging to boost consumer confidence in the product.

The new energy shot formula and its individual serving size packaging are slated for release toward the end of the first quarter 2011.

Ximo Ingredients: White Willow Bark

I decided to include this article on White Willow Bark because Ximo Health's owner Erik Laver recently announced the new Golden Energy formula will contain the ingredient.

What is White Willow Bark?

Author: Chris Randon

What is white willow bark?

Other Names: Salix alba, white willow, willow bark

White willow bark is a tree native to Europe and Asia. The name "white willow" comes from the color of the leaves, which are covered with fine white hairs.

The use of white willow bark medicinally goes far back. Ancient Egyptians used white willow for inflammation. The Greek physician Hippocrates wrote about white willow's medicinal uses in 5th century B.C.

In 1829, scientists in Europe identified what was believed to be the active ingredient in white willow bark—a compound called salicin. Public demand grew rapidly.

Extracting salicin from herbs was considered to be expensive and time-consuming, so a synthetic salicylic acid version was developed in Germany in 1852 and quickly became the treatment of choice (salicin is converted in the body to salicylic acid).

The problem was that it was harder on the stomach. At therapeutic doses, people using the synthetic salicyclic acid developed stomach ulcers and bleeding.

The German company Bayer eventually created a synthetic, less harsh derivative of salicylic acid, called acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), and mass-produced it under the name aspirin. Despite this, aspirin is still known for irritating the stomach lining.

Why do people use white willow bark?

White willow bark is used for conditions that cause pain, inflammation, or fever, such as:

  • Acute back pain

  • Fever

  • Flu

  • Joint pain

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Pain

People take white willow bark instead of aspirin because it does not appear to be as irritating to the stomach lining. It may be because the salicin found naturally in white willow bark is only converted to the acid form after it is absorbed by the stomach.

Researchers have also suggested that white willow bark is more effective than aspirin because of other active compounds that are found in the bark but not the drug. Animal research at Cairo University compared a willow bark extract to ASA and found that a willow bark extract was as effective as aspirin in reducing inflammation, even though the salicin content was lower than an equivalent dose of ASA.

What research has been done on white willow bark?

  • In a German study, the effectiveness of a willow bark extract providing 240 mg of salicin a day was compared to placebo in a 2-week randomized controlled trial in 78 people with osteoarthritis. After two weeks, the willow bark patients' pain scores were reduced by 14% compared to the placebo group, which had a 2% increase in pain scores.

  • A randomized controlled trial published in the American Journal of Medicine examined the use of 120 mg or 240 mg salicin or placebo in 210 patients with an low back pain. In the fourth and final week of the study, 39% of the group taking 240 mg salicin were pain-free for at least 5 days, compared to 21% in the 120 mg group and only 6% in the placebo group.

  • Two randomized controlled 6-week trials investigated the effectiveness and safety of willow bark in 127 patients with hip and/or knee osteoarthritis and 26 patients with rheumatoid arthritis. In the osteoarthritis trial, patients received either willow bark providing 240 mg of salicin a day, 100 mg a day of the drug diclofenac, or a placebo. Patients in the rheumatoid arthritis trial received either willow bark or a placebo. The results found that the drug diclofenac was more effective than placebo in osteoarthritis patients but white willow bark was not. In rheumatoid arthritis patients, willow bark wasn't found to be more effective than placebo.

Common Doses

Studies have used white willow bark extracts that provide 120 mg to 240 mg of salicin per day.

Safety

Because white willow bark contains salicylates, the same precautions as aspirin should be taken until research has shown otherwise. The following people should not take white willow bark:

  • People with an aspirin allergy or sensitivity. There has been a published report of a 25 year old woman who was admitted to emergency with anaphylaxis after taking 2 capsules of a weight loss supplement that contained willow bark. The patient had a history of allergy to acetylsalicylic acid. No other possible causes for anaphylaxis were identified in that patient.

  • People with peptic ulcer disease or kidney disease.

  • The herbs ginkgo, vitamin E, and garlic may increase the risk of bleeding if combined with white willow.

  • People with hyperuricemia, gout, and asthma.

  • Children and teenagers, especially with flu-like symptoms, chicken pox, or Reye's syndrome.

  • Pregnant or nursing women.

White willow bark should be avoided two weeks before or after surgery.

Side effects

There have been few reported side effects. However, the same side effects as aspirin may theoretically occur, especially at higher doses: ringing in the ears, ulcers, stomach burning, pain, cramping, nausea, gastrointestinal bleeding and liver toxicity, rash, dizziness, and kidney impairment.

Ximo Ingredients: Quercetin

Please enjoy this article I found about the benefits of Quercetin - one of the ingredients found in Ximo Health Golden Energy Shots

The Health Benefits of Quercetin Supplementation

Author: Paul Guenther

Quercetin belongs to a group of flavonoids that give many fruits and vegetables their color. Flavonoids such as quercetin are antioxidants. Antioxidant supplements essentially attack damaging particles found in the body - particles known as free radicals. Free radicals can tamper with, damage cell membranes, and even cause cells to die off. Quercetin can help to neutralize free radicals and may reduce much of the damage that they cause.

When taken as a health supplement, quercetin acts as an antihistamine and anti-inflammatory compound. These properties have been said to make quercetin a viable option in the fight against heart disease and cancer. A quercetin complex can prevent cells from releasing histamines, and thus, researchers agree that it can be very beneficial in preventing allergies, runny noses, watery eyes, swelling, and hives.

Flavonoids quercetin, resveratrol, and catechins may also help in the fight against heart disease. Quercetin seems to be able to protect against the damage caused by bad cholesterols, and can even prevent death in some cases. It is also interesting to note that people who eat diets high in these flavanoids tend to have lower cholesterol, and less damage to LDL cholesterol in general.

Finally, activated quercetin has also been thought of as a supplement that can prevent cancer. Individuals who eat lots of fruits and vegetables tend to be at lower risk for many types of cancer. Quercetin and other flavonoids have been shown in these studies to inhibit the growth of cancer cells; from breast cancer, to prostate and lung cancer cells.

While quercetin has many potential benefits when taken as a health supplement, it should be understood that more study is needed to show the true interaction between quercetin supplementation and human reaction. What works in the lab, and what has been beneficial to animals, does not always convey effectiveness for humans. More research is necessary before most of these claims can be validated. It is fairly clear, however, that quercetin benefits out weight the negatives (and quercetin side effects are fairly minimal). Always ask your doctor before starting any kind of quercetin supplement regimen.

Typical dosages of quercetin range from 100-1,000mg daily. One should never consume more than 1g on a daily basis without first consulting a physician. For general supplementation, the dosage is typically between 100 and 250mg, twice daily. When taking for interstitial cystitis or chronic prostatitis, 500mg two times daily is recommended. If you are using quercetin for allergies, the best dose is somewhere between 250-600mg, taken as needed. Take your size into account, and use common sense, as always.
